Apasionado de las estructuras constructivas y musicales, el soriano Alejandro Cantalapiedra se abre paso como uno de los directores más interesantes del panorama actual gracias a su visión global de las grandes obras sinfónicas, a las que imprime siempre un sello muy especial como arquitecto sonoro.

Desde su estancia en Madrid como estudiante de arquitectura en la Universidad Politécnica, Alejandro desarrolla su carrera artística cimentando su formación en paralelo a la creación de orquestas de jóvenes, y con el objetivo de atraer a un público en principio lejano a los lenguajes más formales y clásicos. De este empeño surgen las Orquestas JOECOM y de la propia Universidad Politécnica, con quienes, en muy poco tiempo, Alejandro alcanzó cotas artísticas inimaginables para un músico de su edad al frente de grupos tan heterogéneos, pero guiados con la energía apropiada hasta la sala sinfónica del Auditorio Nacional, donde el éxito de público y crítica ha sido abrumador con obras del gran repertorio como la Eroica o la Novena Sinfonía de Beethoven.

Dejando crecer la semilla que sembraron en él sus primeros maestros, Juan Esteban y Miguel Romea, Alejandro dio el paso definitivo a escala europea desplazándose hasta Rotterdam para completar sus estudios de dirección orquestal con Hans Leenders y Sander Teepen y, en el plano coral, con Wiecher Mandemaker.Completa sus estudios asistiendo a masterclasses con los maestros Antony Hermus, Karel Desseure, entre otros. Es en Países Bajos donde Alejandro sigue desarrollando su actividad, siendo recientemente nombrado director asistente de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Holanda y de la Opera Nacional. Es además director titular de la Utrecht Young Orchestra, y colabora frecuentemente con otras agrupaciones como dePhilharmonie Amsterdam, Leiden Sinfonietta o Toonkunskoor Amsterdam, entre otros.
