María Baqueiro es ingeniera de Minas y Executive MBA. Hasta 2018 trabajó en el ámbito de la consultoría energética, la última etapa como directora del área de Eficiencia Energética. Entre 2018 y 2021 fue profesora asociada en la Universidad de Vigo donde impartió asignaturas relativas al ámbito energético en Escuelas de Ingeniería.

Desde 2020 es mentora en el proyecto Inspira STEAM para el fomento de la vocación científico-tecnológica y artística entre las niñas. En 2012 pone en marcha el proyecto Marujita Alegre, seudónimo bajo el cual diseñaba y confeccionaba ropa. Con este proyecto entra de lleno en el ámbito de la sostenibilidad, primero a través de la lectura de diversos libros sobre diseño para el cambio y moda ética y luego a través de su participación en Latitude LAB, iniciativa para incorporar la sostenibilidad al proceso de producción textil en España. Este proyecto le permite incorporar el ámbito social a sus conocimientos en los ámbitos medioambiental y económico.

Durante los años siguientes sigue formándose hasta que en 2018 se incorpora al equipo del festival Sinsal como Responsable de Sostenibilidad. El festival fue premiado como Festival más sostenible de España en los Premios FEST 2020.
