Txema Hernández (Pasai San Pedro, 1970) holds a PhD in Geological Sciences from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from the Institute of Ecological Research in Málaga. His professional career has consistently focused on bridging science, education, and sustainability.
He began his career as a lecturer in Sedimentary Petrology at the UPV/EHU, later shifting towards science education. He worked for several years as an educational technician and later became Head of Content at Eureka! Zientzia Museoa where he developed science communication experiences aimed at engaging the general public.
Since 2009, he has been the Director and Manager of the Cristina Enea Foundation, a leading institution in the Basque Country dedicated to sustainability, urban biodiversity, and environmental education. He combines this role with scientific research and public outreach, participating in projects that promote a critical and transformative ecological culture.
Throughout his career, Hernández has worked at the intersection of scientific knowledge, educational practice, and ecological commitment. His approach blends academic rigor with a strong communication vocation, understanding that the ecosocial transition requires both reflection and active citizen involvement.
His work focuses on promoting new narratives about the relationship between people and nature, fostering proposals that combine environmental justice, territorial equity, and sustainable governance.
Activist and professional in the energy sector. With a firm belief that the transitions we need to undertake require the collaborative work of the entire society, she has focused her activity on facilitating citizen-led ecological transition processes. In this regard, she served as Director of Ecooo for 12 years and, together with other individuals and organizations, promoted the creation of the Platform for a New Energy Model, where she held the position of National Coordinator for four years. She has also participated in highly stimulating and enriching spaces for reflection, such as the Foro de Transiciones, Fundación Renovables, the Governing Council of the Foro Economía Progresista, and the Foro Energía y Sociedad. As a result of this networked work, she coordinated the book “Alta Tensión, hacia un Nuevo Modelo Energético.”Beyond the energy transition, other necessary transitions have led her to engage in highly creative spaces, being a Founding Partner of the Teatro del Barrio Consumer Cooperative and a promoter of Caja #MeCambio, an initiative to foster the Social Market of Madrid.All of this she has combined with providing energy consultancy to municipalities and facilitating water and energy saving projects in educational centers. Currently, she leads the promotion of sectoral groups and local action groups for regeneration through Hope!.
