Hasta la edad de 14 años, James Rhodes no tuvo educación musical académica formal ni tutoría dedicada. A los 18 años dejó de tocar el piano por completo durante una década. Desde que regresó al piano, ha lanzado siete álbumes, todos los cuales han encabezado las listas clásicas de iTunes. Ha actuado en algunos de los teatros y recintos más prestigiosos del mundo, como el Roundhousede Londres o el Royal Albert Hall. Es uno de los pocos artistas clásicos que ha actuado en festivales al aire libre como Latitudey Sonar.

Además de escribir regularmente para periódicos españoles y británicos y presentar documentales y programas de radio para BBC Radio 3 y Cadena SER, James también ha aparecido y presentado varios programas de televisión para la BBC, Channel4 y SkyArts. Su libro de memorias, “Instrumental”, un bestseller a nivel internacional, es una historia brutalmente honesta y convincente que estuvo casi prohibida hasta que la Corte Suprema del Reino Unido anuló por unanimidad una orden judicial en mayo de 2015. James ahora es publicado en más de 14 idiomas en todo el mundo.

James vive en Madrid, donde colabora habitualmente con la SER y escribe una columna mensual para El País. También ha trabajado en estrecha colaboración con SavetheChildren y políticos para lograr una nueva ley de protección infantil en España.
